Let’s Be Trees Unveils Hosanna High Community Burial Project to Make Funerals Affordable for All

ROCKY MOUNT, NC – Let’s Be Trees (www.letsbetrees.org) is breaking new ground in the fight against funeral poverty with the launch of the Hosanna High Community Burial Project, an innovative initiative to ensure that everyone can afford a dignified farewell for their loved ones. This nonprofit ministry is rallying communities to create affordable, community-owned cemeteries, bringing funeral costs down to a fraction of the national average.

With the median cost of a traditional funeral and burial now exceeding $12,000 (according to the National Funeral Directors Association), many families face financial hardship or are forced to settle for cremation as the only low-cost option. Let’s Be Trees is changing that narrative. The Hosanna High Community Burial Project empowers neighbors to come together, pooling resources and land to establish nonprofit cemeteries that offer family led burials to absorb costs when need be, a stark contrast to the industry norm.

“I hope to never see another funeral fundraiser again and we believe no one should have to choose between honoring their loved one and paying their bills,” said Cheri Wallace, Founder of Let’s Be Trees. “The Hosanna High Community Burial Project is about taking back control and making dignity affordable. This is a movement for the people, by the people.”

The project kicks off with a call to action: communities can sign up at www.letsbetrees.org to form their own nonprofit cemetery. Let’s Be Trees provides the blueprint—guidance, planning tools, and support—to make it happen. Over 900 supporters have already joined the cause, and the organization aims to establish a community burial site in the Twin Counties region.

“We’re not just offering a service; we’re building a legacy of fairness and compassion,” added Cheri Wallace. “Together, we can make funerals affordable for everyone, one community at a time.”
