Nash CC Launches Adult Learner Survey to Strengthen Support and Success
ROCKY MOUNT, North Carolina (February 19, 2026) – Nash Community College is launching an Adult Learner Survey as part of a new Adult Learner Consortium initiative aimed at better understanding and supporting adult students.
The survey seeks input from adult learners age 25 and older, including:
- Current adult learners
- Adult learner alumni
- Individuals who started but did not complete a program (stop-outs)
- Prospective adult learners
“In North Carolina, adult learners are generally defined as individuals age 25 or older,” said Dr. K.J. Askew, director of marketing and strategic engagement at Nash CC. “At NCC, adult learners represent a large population. Their experiences (whether positive or challenging) provide critical insight into how we can improve access, flexibility and support.”
The short survey, which takes approximately three to five minutes to complete, invites participants to share what has worked well, what barriers they have faced, and how the college can better support adult learners balancing work, family and other responsibilities.
The initiative is designed not only to gather feedback, but to inform institutional improvements that benefit current and future students, including those who may consider returning to NCC.
“We want adult learners to know that their voice matters,” said Dr. Askew. “Their participation helps shape the future of adult learning at Nash. If someone ever plans to return, this feedback can help create an even stronger experience for them.”
Focus Group Volunteers Sought
In addition to the survey, NCC is seeking volunteers from any of the adult learner populations to participate in small focus group conversations.
Participants who indicate interest at the end of the survey may be invited to join a discussion to share more detailed insights about their experiences. These conversations will help the college better understand adult learner decision-making, support needs and opportunities for improvement.
Participation in both the survey and focus groups is voluntary.
The survey is open through Mar 2.
