Nash Community College’s Nighthawk Enrollment Day Helps More Than 950 Students Since 2023

ROCKY MOUNT, North Carolina (November 18, 2025) – Nash Community College hosted its seventh Nighthawk Enrollment Day (NED) this fall, welcoming more than 150 attendees to campus for a one-stop enrollment experience designed to help students prepare for the upcoming spring semester.

Since its inception in October 2023, NED has become one of the college’s most impactful student engagement initiatives, assisting more than 950 students to date. This is a combination of new students completing their first enrollment and returning students registering for the next semester.

NED was developed as a revitalized and expanded version of the college’s former registration event(s), which were held prior to 2019. The concept was envisioned by Dr. Kenyon (K.J.) Askew, Director of Marketing and Strategic Engagement, and brought to life by a cross-functional planning and implementation team including Renee Martinez, Executive Director of Advising Services; Shreail Hinton, former Director of Admissions; Kathryn Engrassia, former Marketing and Communications Coordinator; Dr. Wendy Cook, Vice President of Student Services; and Cynthia Green, Coordinator of Recruitment.

The goal was simple and strategic — to create a comprehensive, student-centered enrollment experience that streamlined the admissions, advising and registration process into a single day.

“Nighthawk Enrollment Day is about breaking down barriers and making the path to community college clearer and more accessible,” said Dr. Wendy Cook, vice president of student services at NCC. “Students can complete every step of the enrollment process in one visit, leaving confident and ready to start their next chapter at Nash.”

During the event, attendees received assistance with admissions applications, financial aid completion, program advising and course registration. Staff from across campus were on hand to guide students through each step, ensuring a smooth transition into the spring semester.

Dr. Askew emphasized the collaborative spirit that has made Nighthawk Enrollment Day such a success. “This event represents the best of what we experience we can provide to our students when departments come together with a shared vision. This event (in addition to all things we do) is a commitment to helping every student succeed from the moment they choose Nash.”

The ongoing success of Nighthawk Enrollment Day highlights Nash Community College’s dedication to student access, success, and retention. The event has now become a signature experience each semester, embodying the college’s mission to meet students where they are and guide them toward achieving their educational goals.
