Nash Community College Showcases Electric Line Program at NC General Assembly Community College Day

ROCKY MOUNT, North Carolina (Mar. 14, 2025) – Nash Community College is proudly representing its Electric Line Construction Technology Program today at the North Carolina General Assembly as part of Community College Day. NCC is one of only 10 community colleges selected from across the state to showcase its program to legislators, who will have the opportunity to view demonstrations and learn about the high-quality training that makes Nash’s Electric Line Program the best in North Carolina.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to showcase our Electric Line Program at the state capital," said Dr. Lew K. Hunnicutt, president of NCC. "This is a tremendous honor for our students and faculty, and it underscores the significant role NCC plays in providing workforce-ready training that meets the needs of North Carolina’s industries. Our Electric Line Program not only trains future line workers but also contributes to the state’s economic development and infrastructure."

As legislators move between meetings at the General Assembly, they will be able to view programs from Nash CC and nine other community colleges showcased under a tent on the Halifax Mall and interact with students and faculty. The event highlights the college’s dedication to preparing students for in-demand careers, with its Electric Line Program serving as a prime example of Nash's commitment to excellence in education and workforce development.

"We’re incredibly proud of the work we do in the Electric Line Program," said Lindsey Sauls, director of the electric line program at NCC. "This program is essential to building a skilled workforce that powers our communities. Our students receive hands-on training that is second to none and today is a great opportunity for the state’s decision-makers to see just how important this training is to the state's economy."

NCC, with its strong workforce development initiatives, has an $86 million economic impact annually and serves more than 20,000 students each year. The college’s focus on practical, career-ready education is key to fostering local and state-wide economic growth.

"Our Electric Line Program is a perfect example of how Nash Community College helps bridge the skills gap in our region and beyond," said Wendy Marlowe, vice president of continuing education and economic/workforce development. "This program not only supports the local economy but is a model for other colleges to follow in developing industry-focused educational programs that meet workforce demands."

The event marks a significant moment in NCC’s ongoing efforts to elevate its reputation as NC’s premier community college for comprehensive education and workforce development.
