Nash Community College Student Selected for Statewide Leadership Role

ROCKY MOUNT, North Carolina (June 16, 2026) – Nash Community College student Denzel Harrison has been selected to serve as an Assistant to the Executive Board for the Eastern Division of the North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association (N4CSGA) for the 2026-27 academic year.

The appointment marks a significant achievement for both Harrison and NCC, as he becomes only the second student in the college’s history to serve in a leadership role with the statewide student organization.

N4CSGA serves as the official student advocacy organization for North Carolina’s community colleges, providing student leaders with opportunities to represent their peers, promote student success initiatives and collaborate on issues affecting community college students across the state.

Harrison earned the appointment through a competitive selection process that included a formal application, interview and vote by current N4CSGA student leaders.

“We are incredibly proud of Denzel and this accomplishment,” said Dr. Lew K. Hunnicutt, president of NCC. “His selection shows that he embodies our core values of community, integrity, and respect. We are excited to see him represent NCC and advocate for community college students across North Carolina.”

As an assistant to the Eastern Division executive board, Harrison will support statewide initiatives, collaborate with student leaders from across the region and help amplify student voices on issues impacting North Carolina’s community colleges.

“I am excited about this opportunity to represent NCC across the state,” Harrison said. “Community colleges provide life-changing opportunities for many students, and I look forward to helping move student engagement forward across North Carolina.”

Harrison will begin his service this summer by attending the N4CSGA Leadership Retreat at Topsail Island from June 14-18, where student leaders from across the state will meet to develop priorities and plan initiatives for the upcoming academic year.

“Denzel has consistently demonstrated a passion for leadership and serving others,” said Kara Deans, associate dean of student engagement and advisor to the NCC Student Government Association. “This opportunity will allow him to grow as a leader while making a meaningful impact on behalf of students throughout North Carolina.”

NCC congratulates Harrison on this prestigious appointment and looks forward to the contributions he will make during his term of service.
